ARES is composed of licensed radio amateurs who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment for communications duty in the public service, when disaster strikes.

Every licensed radio amateur, whether or not a member of RAC or any other local or regional organization, is eligible for membership in the Amateur Radio Emergency Service. The only qualification is a sincere desire to serve.

ARES Check-In Net

This net is held on the last Friday of every month on the VE3SRG repeater at 1900 hrs. The net controller will ask for check-ins at the end of which he will read out the callsigns and then close the net. Non-ARES members are invited to check in. The net provides an opportunity to see who is available and may offer, as well, a chance to provide information to ARES members.
