Sudbury

This year’s exercise of the Sudbury ARES Group – SimplEx 2009 – focused on reception of HF mobile signals at the City of Greater Sudbury EOC. Reception of calls from the single mobile station, Al VE3AOF and Dave VA3NCS, were intermittent and of poor quality. Check-ins from a number of base stations were acknowledged – signals were not good due to noise. During this time Gord VA3GJJ monitored repeater VE3SRG to provide an alternate link to the EOC and took a number of check-ins, Art VE3COG checked into IRLP reflector 9005 which had been activated as a part of the Province wide SET 2009, and Stiig VE3LBX checked into Ontario Phone Net/ Communications Ontario Net where he was able to send a radiogram to the attention Bob Gammon VA3RX. During the exercise period a successful simplex radio check between the Police Com Centre and the EOC was completed.

In addition to the operators mentioned above I want to thank the following for participating in the exercise: Bill VE3BEK, Harry VE3TEI, Pat VE3HZQ, Marc VE3SNA, Doug VE3DNS, Saul VE3YSC, Al VE3AC, and Larry VE3LXV,

During the Province-wide EOC Test Pat VE3HZQ and Stiig VE3LBX checked in to the Ontario Phone and IRLP nets, respectively.

Sudbury ARES welcomes the return of Pat Dopson VE3HZQ as its newest member.

Members of Sudbury ARES and Sudbury ARC contributed to a successful Halloween Patrol this year. My thanks are extended to Ed VE3VPD, Doug VE3DNS, Art VE3COG, Gord VA3GJJ, Luc VE3MND, Al VE3AOF, Dave VA3NCS, Bill VE3BEK, Harry VE3TEI, Andy VE3LTY, Frank VE3FSJ, and Mike VE3FPX.
