Luc VE3MND, Steve VE3CWJ and Roger VE3ZI set up GOTA Station antennas
for 10-40M. View is westwards...
Future ham...hi hi In background is silo holding CW beam, with extended boom for dipoles to right of Brady. Young Brady completed his first
QSO this field day!
Talk about young visitors! Several harmonics of VE3WO, with Luc VE3MND operating GOTA, Stiig, VE3LBX (ARES) on left and a few others...
Looking east, René VA3RFD and Steve VE3CWJ at CW/Phone station beam setup. Beam is TH3jr, about 50 ft up. In photo, from left to right... 1) René VA3RFD, 2) White silo holding CW station beam, 3)in background below us all, the Sudbury Airport, 4)TH3jr beam, 5) just to right of beam mast, boom truck boom holding wire antennas, 6) Steve VE3CWJ
hi hi our wire antennas are higher than the airport!
Brady Savignac making his first amateur radio contact. Supervising is Travis VE3WO
Al VE3AOF making 20M GOTA contact
Our intrepid Roger (top band man to those who know him) working CW contacts from police mobile command center.
Our main CW man, Travis VE3WO being recorded for local news channel.
Steve VE3CWJ, filling in time on CW/Phone station, making some phone contacts while Roger VE3ZI takes a break...
CW/Phone station located in this command center, fully fitted with generators and lights. Nice never having to run out at night to re-fuel that generator! TH3jr beam visible on top of abandoned building...
Local newsman infront of command center (CW/Phone station). Command center acted as information booth, and general gathering place for visitors.
Support from local police service was excellent. Constables provided security and general public information for the entire period. Special thanks to all those of the City of Greater Sudbury police force for the enormous support!!
Overview of Red Cross and command center setup. The abandoned radar site is now used by many police and military services for training, including anti-terrorism exercises. That explains why some of the walls are blown out of the buildings!!
Marc Savignac (ham in training) in boom truck, raising CW beam to Steve VE3CWJ on top of silo. With all metal roofs, there was no problem with ground planes!
Nice view of fully raised boom. Sudbury Hydro donated the use of the boom truck for the entire weekend. Boom was left raised with ropes & pulleys to allow raising of 80M and 160M dipoles. Excellent way to put up dipoles....
Sign says it all. Come see Field Day at it's best! Congratulations to the Sudbury Amateur Radio Club and all its members for an excellent Field
Day this year!
